This item is an authentic Greek silver Drachm minted under the rule of Ariobarzanes, placed in a handmade bezel of 14 karat gold. There is only 1 of this item; you will receive the exact pendant shown in the photos.
History of the Artifact
The Greek drachm was the currency used in various Greek city-states throughout ancient Greece. This coin depicts King Ariobarzanes, who ruled Phrygia, a region of Asia Minor. The term "drachma" is derived from the Greek word "drássomai," which means "to grasp" or "to handle." The drachm has a long history and underwent various changes in terms of design and value over the centuries. A Drachm was always a silver coin which weighed around 4 grams.
Ariobarzanes I is perhaps best known for his involvement in the events following the Persian defeat in the Battle of Cunaxa in 401 BCE. This battle took place during the expedition of the Persian prince Cyrus the Younger against his brother, King Artaxerxes II. The Greek mercenary army, known as the Ten Thousand, fought on Cyrus's side, but Cyrus was killed in the battle.
