In the 1960 United States Presidential Election saw Republican contender Richard Nixon face off with the young, eloquent and handsome Democrat from Massachusetts. The race was a close one with Kennedy winning the popular vote by a margin of 0.17 percent and carrying fewer states than his Republican opponent. On January 20th 1961, Kennedy was inaugurated at the United States Capitol where he would make known to the world his eloquence and outstanding ability in speech writing, pronouncing one of his most cited phrases: “Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country”. Sadly, his fame today rests not only on his well worded speeches, leadership and charm but also on his untimely death in an assassination that has been the subject of intense speculation shrouded in mystery and conspiracy.

In his short lived time in office, Kennedy managed to leave in the hearts of all Americans, an indelible memory that has many to this today calling him the last great statesman to have presided over the oval office.
