Now available to you are original silver ‘Gröschen’ from the Holy Roman Empire! As with all artifacts sold in our store, these are authentic coins dating back to the 13th Century A.D, alongside your purchase, you will receive a certificate of authenticity issued by us.

These coins were minted almost 800 years ago (1271-1295) during the reign of Archduke Meinhard II who ruled over the Duchy of Carinthia in now modern Southern Germany and Austria. The Duchy of Carinthia was one of many Duchies that, united, composed one of the most famous and powerful Empires to have ever ruled in Europe - the Holy Roman Empire. Archduke Meinhard II, under whose rule these coins were minted, held the title of ‘Prince of the Holy Roman Empire’ granted to him by King Rudolf I - Monarch of the House of Habsburg who ruled over all duchies in the Holy Roman Empire. 

On the obverse of this coin is a large ‘cross potent’ overlaid with a smaller cross potent; around it, reads the inscription ‘Mainardus’ - referring to Archduke Meinhard II. The reverse is instead decorated with a Tyrollean eagle facing left.
