History of the Artifact

French Napoleonic 10 Centimes Coin. Now available to you, Napoleonic era original coins emblemed with Napoleon’s archetypal “N” on the obverse.

All the coins on sale were minted between 1807 and 1810 in the apotheosis of Napoleon’s short but legendary Empire (1804-1814). The currency at the time was based on the Franc with 100 centimes equalling 1 Franc. This particular 10 centimes piece was struck for standard circulation and is composed of 20% silver and 80% Copper. On the reverse we read the inscriptions “Napoleon Emperor” in French and “10 Centimes”. Underneath is a mintmark composed of a letter ranging between A, B, BB, H, I, M, T and W each alongside their respective mintmark symbol, rooster, hammer, etc… On the obverse is the Napoleonic monogram featuring the quintessential N, which similarly emblazoned his Imperial Guard’s flag, crowned by the imperial crown with which he famously crowned himself at his coronation in 1804.
