On the reverse, a she-wolf nursing the twin brothers Romulus and Remus illustrates the foundational myth of Rome. According to legend, the twins, sons of the god Mars and the vestal virgin Rhea Silvia, were abandoned as infants and rescued by a she-wolf who raised them in the wild. Later, they discovered their royal lineage and sought to build a city but clashed over its location. The dispute ended tragically with Romulus killing Remus, after which Romulus founded the city of Rome in 753 BCE, becoming its first king and establishing a legacy that would shape Western civilization for centuries.
