Description
This item is an authentic Roman silver Denarius minted in the Roman Republic, placed in a handmade bezel of 14 karat gold. There is only 1 of this item; you will receive the exact pendant shown in the photos.
History of the Artifact
Minted during the Republic era, this denarius is a tangible link to the days of Julius Caesar, Pompey, and Cicero, when the Republic was at its height and Rome was the center of the world. The denarius, which became the main silver coin of Rome for over four centuries, was introduced in 211 BC or a few years earlier, and produced in enormous quantities from the silver captured in the sack of Syracuse. Historians believe the coin’s original value to be three day’s pay for a soldier.
Unlike in Imperial Rome where the Denarius always depicted the portrait of the emperor, Republican Denarius varied greatly in design. Designs and inscriptions on early Republican coins were devoted solely to Rome often displaying a Roman quadriga on the reverse and Roma wearing a winged helm on the obverse.
