History of the Artifact

Nigersaurus was a unique genus of sauropod dinosaur that lived approximately 115 to 105 million years ago during the Early Cretaceous period. It was first discovered in the Gadoufaoua region of Niger, West Africa, in the 1990s by a team led by paleontologist Paul Sereno. Nigersaurus was a relatively small sauropod, measuring about 30 feet (9 meters) in length, with a long neck and a relatively short, wide skull.

One of the most distinctive features of Nigersaurus was its peculiar skull anatomy. Unlike many other sauropods, Nigersaurus had a broad, square-shaped skull with rows of more than 500 thin, pencil-like teeth arranged in a unique arrangement. These teeth were continuously replaced throughout the dinosaur's life, indicating that Nigersaurus was a prolific feeder, likely consuming vast quantities of vegetation.

Paleontologists believe that Nigersaurus was a low-level browser, feeding on ferns, horsetails, and other low-lying plants. Its specialized teeth and jaw structure allowed it to efficiently crop vegetation close to the ground, making it well-adapted to its herbivorous lifestyle. Additionally, the structure of its skull suggests that Nigersaurus had a relatively lightweight head, which would have been advantageous for minimizing energy expenditure while foraging.
