Item Description

70 mm Wingspan
8 Inch Hangable Shadowbox Frame
Male
Central Africa

Charaxes Zingha, commonly known as the Forest Glider, is a captivating butterfly species that belongs to the Nymphalidae family. This large and visually striking butterfly is characterized by a wingspan ranging from approximately 75 to 100 millimeters. The upper side of its wings showcases a beautiful interplay of dark brown tones adorned with prominent red markings, creating a distinctive and aesthetically pleasing contrast. On the underside, the wings display lighter hues and distinct patterns, contributing to the overall allure of this species.

Native to sub-Saharan Africa, Charaxes Zingha inhabits a broad geographic range, spanning from Sierra Leone in West Africa to Uganda in East Africa. Its preferred habitats include both primary and secondary forests, where it is often observed gracefully flying high in the forest canopy. As a crepuscular species, the Forest Glider exhibits peak activity during dawn and dusk, a behavior believed to be an adaptation to avoid predators that are more active during daylight hours.
