History of the Artifact

Small trilobites were ancient marine arthropods that lived during the Paleozoic Era, approximately 500 to 250 million years ago. These creatures, typically just a few centimeters in length, had segmented exoskeletons and were among the earliest animals to develop complex, compound eyes. Their bodies were divided into three parts: a head (cephalon), a thorax with multiple segments, and a tail section (pygidium).

Trilobites were highly diverse, with some species adapted for swimming, while others crawled along the seafloor scavenging or feeding on detritus. Despite their small size, they played an important role in marine ecosystems, contributing to the nutrient cycle and serving as prey for larger predators. Fossils of trilobites are widely distributed and are often used by paleontologists to study ancient marine environments and the evolution of early life on Earth. They went extinct during the mass extinction at the end of the Permian Period, around 300 Million Years Ago.
