History of the Artifact

There are three described Tyrannosaurs from the Two Medicine & Judith River Formations; Albertosaurus, Gorgosaurus and Daspletosaurus. These species are so similar to each other, that differentiation from a tooth is not possible, so the tooth is simply labeled as a Tyrannosaurus Tooth.

Tyrannosaurids were a family of large theropod dinosaurs that roamed the Earth during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 68 to 66 million years ago. Characterized by their robust build, powerful jaws, and distinctive two-fingered hands, tyrannosaurids were apex predators and among the largest carnivorous dinosaurs. The most famous member of this family is Tyrannosaurus rex, commonly known as T. rex, which stood out for its massive size, reaching lengths of up to 40 feet and towering heights of about 15 feet at the hips. T. rex had strong hind limbs, suggesting it was a fast and formidable predator, while its massive skull housed large, serrated teeth capable of crushing bones. These dinosaurs played a crucial role in Late Cretaceous ecosystems, demonstrating the pinnacle of predatory evolution during their time.
